floor and windows

Image
Subfloor is done!   We also fired up the machine, needed a jump start and to warm up/thaw.   Installed both dormer windows in the snow , but today was nicer so we also finished the gable end windows.

snow! and windows

Image
Never ending snow already in December, looking to be a good winter  We picked up the last of our windows as well as a huge patio slider today.

almost have a floor

Image
About 2.5 rows to go and then it's done. Will be picking up our windows and maybe patio door this weekend as well.

Subfloor started

Image
Now that we are protected from the elements, went and picked up a truck load of subfloor. Been spending a bit of time after work.... String up a couple led work lights as well, sure helps:) Shingles were "delivered" to the top of the roof yesterday too.

Roof is done! just needs shingles

Image
Very exciting day. The framers are done! We have a roof and safe from the upcoming snow season. Dormers and gable ready for windows. Roofer came out and got the ice shield and fancy tar paper, so everything is protected. Shingles should be started next week.

front half of the roof is done

Image
Had better weather this week, the framers finished the front half of the roof, dormers, overhangs. The back should go a bit quicker(no dormers) and they can work off the top of the roof now setting the remaining rafters(they have them all precut ready to go.

front half rafters almost done

Image
5 days of work and about half the rafters are up, dormers are built too. Starting to almost look like a home:)

Roof framing is started!

Image
The framers came out with a crew of 5 and their own machine!  It's been terribly rainy and cold, but they are making great progress. Amazing how a couple dormers really break up the roof line  They even brought their own wood stove!

cleaning before roof

Image
We are finalizing a framer to get out roof built. Hopefully starting in a week. So last couple weeks we've been pressure washing before it's too cold. Outside is all done and inside is about 1/2.

Big logs are up!

Image
Haven't done an update in a while. We got all the 3 big 50' 6000lb logs on the wall a couple weeks ago . Last weekend was ridge pole day. One end then the other. Didn't drop it!

course 11

Image
Got 2 logs of course 11 pinned this week after work, and finished pealing and pressure washing the cap logs and ridge pole.

almost there

Image
We are 2 logs away from being done course 10! That means 1 more regular row, then the big 50' , 24" diameter cap logs, and ridge pole. Jessica has been pressure washing the logs, got a lot of dirt and grey off them. We also used the leftover footer lumber to make a walkway around the back side.

woohoo

Image
Middle/ last RPSL (ridge pole support log) is installed. We had a broken machine, but after a bunch of testing/trying/fixing, it's finally good again. That took a few days.2 bad o rings, chunks of a broken filter clogging the cartridge, and a leaking cylinder. We set the middle vertical today after Jessica finished work. 1" all thread, countersunk. Our friend Jason welded the brackets that will go under the girders. Just finishing painting them.

2nd floor girders are in

Image
course 8 completed. the middle and back girder logs are in and level. Next up is the center RPSL. We test fit it last weekend, but had to take it down to move the girder into place.   Also picked up some huge 1"x8" lag bolts for the girder brackets that or friend Jason is welding for us

course 8 almost done

Image
Jessica working hard pealing a log. Layla supervising, watching for critters in the yard. One more log on the back wall and course 8 is done. Then setting second floor girder logs.

course 7 almost done

Image
One more log, tomorrow after work, before the rain, and course 7 will be done. Then ready for second floor girder logs in course 8, and center rpsl

Getting taller

Image
We put the front and back Rpsl's in the other week before the walls got too high. Working on course 6.   Had a mouse walk through the yard as I was setting a log.

17 logs on

Image
We had a productive weekend last week, and set another 3 logs, and also got pea gravel spread in the crawlspace. Today I set log#17.
